The Jury of the Franca Florio Award, which is bestowed annually upon Sicilian personalities who, through their professions, fulfill the role of ambassadors of Sicily, has conferred this prestigious award on Marcello Giordani. The ceremony will take place on March 29th in Palermo, at the seat of the Sicilian Parliament, in the presence of the President of the Regional Assembly and other dignitaries. Following the event, a dinner gala will be offered in honor of the Maestro who has kindly agreed to sing one or two pieces from his musical repertory with piano accompaniment.
The award was created to honor the memory of Franca Florio, one of the most famous personalities of the international
belle époque, who was called by the Sicilians “the Queen of Sicily”. One of the projects undertaken by Franca Florio and her husband was the construction of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo. The current season of the Teatro Massimo includes the world première of the ballet,
Franca Florio, Regina di Palermo.
