"Marcello Giordani... is luxury casting as Pinkerton; it’s a rare pleasure to hear an ardent-voiced Italian tenor of this quality sing his own language with such authority and musical taste."

NEXT ON THE STAGE AND LIVE IN HD

1 January 2010 — A much anticipated revival - Giancarlo del Monaco’s production of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra was first presented at the Metropolitan Opera in 1995, starring tenor Placido Domingo in the role of Boccanegra’s enemy and alleged rival, Gabriele Adorno, in this fascinating story of love, hatred, jealousy and political intrigue. Since then the opera has enjoyed a series of revivals, including a 2007 revival with Marcello Giordani in the role of Gabriele Adorno: “Marcello Giordani… gave a demonstration of fearless Verdi singing, with stunning, easy top notes both at full cry and at mezzo piano.” wrote the magazine “Opera News” (May 2007). The 2010 revival will see Marcello Giordani again in the role of Gabriele Adorno, and this time he will share the stage with none other than tenor-turned-baritone, Placido Domingo, in the role of the Doge of Genoa, Simone Boccanegra. “I have often worked with Domingo as the conductor of many of my performances,” Marcello declared recently, “but to share the stage with him and to have him next to me as a colleague fills me with pride and excitement.”
The matinée performance of February 6, 2010, will be shown live in movie theaters around the world as part of the Metropolitan Opera’s “Live on HD” simulcasts. Tickets can be purchased by using the link on the "Live on HD" page of the Metropolitan Opera website (www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/).
